I have about a dozen pumpkins which weigh between 600 and 1000 pounds. Eight of them are going to weigh offs. I want the seeds from basically all of them, but I really don't want/need to have 12 giant pumpkins sitting in front of my house until they rot. I'm thinking of trying to sell/trade them to local businesses. Has anyone done this (and been able to get their seeds back)? If so how did you market your pumpkins to the potential buyers. Also how did you handle the logistics of loading and delivering the beasts?

A Contract with money for a seed deposit is a must. Most places do not want to mess with something this big. So lease them the pumpkin on a weekly contract.

I met some guys today that pay $.90 per lb if they pick up & $1.00/Lb delivered to their destination. Each pumkpin is black markered with a reference number or name determined by the grower. They gut the pumpkins into garbage bags by prior arrangement only & duct tape the bag shut with the same reference number. This is done AFTER the display period is complete. The responsiblity to pick up the slop is the growers. The viability of the seeds is NOT guranteed & believe me, after sitting on display for 5 weeks, many seeds germinate in the fruit & many more lose their sheen &/or viability.
