Wouldn't it be cool if BigPumpkins.com held a web weighoff for '05? If you wanted to enter you pay like a $10.00 or $20.00 fee or something(proceeds could go to BP.com) Could have a due date to submit your pic of your biggest pumpkin weighed on a certified scale(with the grower in the pic). Could be submitted anytime before the due date. Only 1 per person. The winner could get we'll say seeds from any grower he/she wishes that also entered the contest. Mabey BP.com could contribute some hats or something to the others in the top 10. Could also have other rewards for ugliest,prettiest,squash,etc...

Only prob is would the real weighoff/fairs consider this as entering a pumpkin into two contests:

"Any specimen previously entered or weighed at any other National or International competition prior to the GPC contest is not eligible for competition".
I guess you could make the due date after the big weighoffs.
Sound or not, as long as it's in one peice?
I think it would be fun...any thoughts

The weigh offs start early in September & finish late October... it might be kinda hard to do something like that...

Are there going to be any postings this weekend from all the weigh off sites? If nothing is planned, is it possible to find someone who could do that?

I was thinking possibly for next season.
for example:
My season ended early sept, if I would have weighed it and had pics. I would have submitted it already and just sat and waited for the others or the deadline. You could have a page dedicated to grower final weights and people could submit their pumpkin, say July through Oct.10 (or what ever)
Once somebody submits their pumpkin thats it,they can't change it. It just gives everybody a chance to compete. Even the early birds who have early splits can still compete with everbody else

A good idea! The long period of weigh off makes it possible for growers with different strategies (early/late starters) to attend...

Sounds like a great idea. I'd be up for that. Anybody ever think of a "grower ranking" or something like that? Say using the best 2 fruit grown every year for the past 5 years and then averaging them out, so there's almost a ladder (kind of like at a tennis club) or a ranking system?

Yeah, Sounds Just Like the "VWO" Virtual Weigh Off by Seedoutlet.com. Good Idea, and I Really Enjoyed The "VWO" and From What I Have Heard, Others Have Really Enjoyed It As Well. I Think They Both Are Great Ideas!

Didn't know about the VWO, it was just a thought that sounded fun. We could all compete against each other (world wide) and mabey a little trash talkin' through out the season.

Goto WWW.Seedoutlet.com and take a look at the rules. This was a pretty good idea they came up with. Then check out my diary (Loccoloop) and you might come up with some more ideas that could tweeeeek into something better!

i like the virtual weigh-off. its good AS IS too. i ESPECIALLY like the 'all grow same seed' idea because it puts you on more an equal footing. (most growers dont have access to the same seeds as the heavy hitters, face it).

The same seed thing is pretty cool!
I think there may be some tweeking to be done.

On the other hand everybody would like to try his own seed, seeds from a friend or whatever... Do not forger the importance of diversity in nature.

i'm not saying dont plant your own seeds lol. but for the contest's sake, that puts someone like me on more equal grounds to compete.
