My wife is due for our fourth child the first of April. Since I am a stay at home Dad, I need to know what should be considered to improve on a 184 lb. AG. My time from April on will be extemely limited so I need a few good suggestions. What would be recomended for fall besides adding leaves and manure? I'm planning on a patch size 48 x 62 with 11 plants. I'm hoping to have about seven plants live through the season. Thanks Tom

Hire a nanny...or build a nursery near your patch.

Tom, If you are all set with manure and leaves, consider planting a cover crop for some green manure. Also, you might want to get a soil test to see if you pH needs to be adjusted before spring...Joe P.

I would also cut down on plant size, 62x48 is only 2976 square feet. The rule is no less than 300 square feet per plant. Go to 6 plants. About 600 square feet each will give you enough plant to broduce a large fruit, and the extra leaves will make it easier for the plant to produce a large fruit with less care. Tom Beachy

I figure that not all plants would make it. So if I start with 11 that gives me many options to cull a plant or two to let others grow. Maybe I'll just put the little new one in a backpack like structure and carry him/her on my back. My other kids could try to help weed as long as they pull the right ones. I did plant rye. My boys helped me a lot. two bushel of seed on the acre of field that we have. But, for some strange reason I have thick areas of rye up about 2 inches and bare spots in others. Tom
Thanks for the info.
