Tonight looks like mother nature finally puts the last nail in the coffin...

SHORT TERM MODELS INDICATE THAT UPPER LOW CURRENTLY CENTERED OVER WYOMING TO MOVE INTO MINNESOTA BY THURSDAY EVENING WITH COLD POOL ALOFT MOVING OVER CWFA TONIGHT. THIS COLD POOL COMBINED WITH DECREASING CLOUDS/POPS AND GENERALLY LIGHT WINDS MEANS THAT WELL BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES SHOULD OCCUR OVER THE SAN LUIS VALLEY TONIGHT...WHILE TEMPERATURES MAY APPROACH THE FREEZING MARK OVER THE I-25 CORRIDOR. BECAUSE OF THIS... THE FORECASTERS HERE AT WFO PUEBLO WILL ISSUE A FREEZE WARNING FOR THE SAN LUIS VALLEY TONIGHT AND A FROST ADVISORY FOR THE I-25 CORRIDOR TONIGHT.

The end of a very long and hard road here in Colorado Springs. Here at madmans laboratory, 18 hail storms hit depositing 2-3 feet of hail total, the coldest summer on record happened, and what could have been has become another season under the belt without the state record. Add in someone stealing 10 older genetic plants {which are irreplaceable}, and I've just experienced my hardest and worst season ever.

I hear others talk about throwing in the towel, and that same thought does cross my mind. I know that the time will come eventually though, when everything works out the way I'd like or expect... That day will come, and that is why I continue on.... anyone else who thinks about quitting should consider how special it will be once their day in the sun comes... AND IT WILL...

I am reminded of what Mike Franz recently posted.

Hey, when you've had that hard a season, things can only get better! :)

I agree with sprout and the thrill is there regardless of the final outcome. BTW, momentary I am thrilled because I might be on the (tyre) track of the thieves that took my PB... This is really exciting sport even in off-season!

Marc, it is 34 degrees here right now at 1:50 am...Going to be a long nite till the sun rises, am going outside right now to start my misters till the temps come up. It is going to turn my patch into a swamp, but which is better dead plants and zero growth or swampy patch and risk of rot with possibly a little more growth on the fruits ### in the warmer days to come .. Good luck to those east of us, as this cold mass is coming your way.....JK.

Some of the new growers have yet to experience, That "Empty Patch Syndrome". It is a hard to explain feeling. The best thing to do is let it go. Then start your soil improvements. Nothing like a day of shoveling manure to forget your sorrows.

Well, i remember last year i lost all my plants on sept 20th or so with a 22 degree night and the next night followed with the same to certainly make sure everything was dead. This year is a different story. If it wasnt for sept weather this year, we wouldnt have one of the top 20 coldest summers on record, but probably a top 5.

Good morning Vietnam! Things are looking wonderful today, as I did like 400 {OZ} SQ FT and beat "muthuh" nature, misting and covering during the night. It got down to 30.3 here, right at sunrise. Some damage, 30% or so... but not a complete wipe out as I would have had if I hadn't done anything. We are scheduled to warm back up, so I'll get another week or so to perhaps fullfill my goal of getting viable seeds from most all of my fruits. That has been the driving reason I've pushed on all year... I pollinated right up thru The first week of September!

Those east of us might not get the cold push we had, but be prepared if your still trying to gain a few pounds still! Getting that extra week of growing sometimes makes a big difference, even this time of the year. We seem to always get a frost or freeze around the 20th, so anything past that day is "bonus growing" to us..

I'll probably never have "empty patch syndrome" {that is a good one!}, as keeping the clones going kind of helps ease symptoms... Maybe if things get slow, I'll round up urban and lawman, and we all can go "pumpkin theif bashing"...
