My question is what to do with the leaf that develops at the same node as the pumpkin does. It seems to get in the way of the pumpkin and any manipulation of the pumpkin that needs to be done. Do you remove it? Is it better to do it when the flower first forms or after you've chosen that pumpkin as a keeper? I haven't removed some of mine, is it too late now?

Brian In one of the Daries their is a picture showing how the leaves are cut. I cut the ones that were on mine at an early stage,

Brian, from what I've heard and seen with mine, it's best to remove the leaf ASAP. There are several reasons for this: The plant already has plenty of sources for nutrients, the leaf could potentially mar the surface of your pumkim which as it grows becomes more obvious. So cut it and watch it grow... Have fun!!
