Ok, here is my question: In my garden I grew my 820.5 and 705.5 on the same plant. It is 1620 ft. sq. I only used a little over half of it for my pumpkin plant and the rest didn't have any thing in it. Two weeks ago I took a soil sample and sent it away. I've added six yards of composted mulched leaves, and three yards of mushroom soil all in the 3/4 of the garden on the side I didn't grow any thing on this year. That is where I will grow my pumpkin next year. I got my soil sample today and my pH level is 6.8. How much, if any, lime should I add, because my pH should go down some because of all the stuff I have added and I have unlimited access to some free mulched leaves. Should I put more leaves on my garden, or do I have enough already? I will be getting a soil sample in the spring, before I plant. I would appreciate feedback from anyone who is familiar with putting a lot of organic materials into their garden, and how much is enough or too much and how it changes the pH level from now until springtime. Thank you.

quinn,
I think your ph should be O.K. in the spring.(If the leaves all decompose). When organic matter or compost finish breaking down, nature will "balance out" the ph level to around 6.8. Adding fresh manure now will speed the process along.
p.s. Great job this year! kilr

i've heard that walnut trees release something that most plants don't like maple leaves are one of the best as far as not changing soil ph most oak leaves are asidic i think someone posted a list on what to add to different leaves last year to help them break down faster and not change ph to much
