Help Needed to assist in the development of a new Giant Fruit & Vegetable website. There are a variety of roles which need filling if you are willing to contribute some of your time, effort, and knowledge to this new community as winter approaches. Anyone can contribute their efforts, there is no restrictions other than the willingness to help others grow big things. The site includes many interesting and powerful features, some complete and some still in the works. I'd like this to be a total community effort, however so far it is just lil' old me.

If interested please send me an email with an introduction, I'll respond with some more details on the site and it's features and we can work out how you could best contribute. And I'd thank you too.

This is a one time message, not intended to annoy or spam your forum. Simply seeking assistance.

Thanks in advance,
gv

I don't mean to rain on your parade, and I would like to help with something like this, but...

don't let it be a one time message. I hate to say it, but I've been taken advantage of by people on the internet I have wanted to help. I have become wary of new personalities, so if you want help, at least let us get to know you a little bit, first. Participate on the site a while, ask questions, invest in the relational structure of this site.

On a side note... It would be easier to get help if you told us you were from someplace other than "internet," too.

Be nice if you changed your handle too... Alot of people refer to me as GV on the site.

I agree, I may be able to help but your info is very limited.

I also agree with the above postings. Come out of the dark and lose your anonanimity, join in the many many conversations on these notice boards, state where you are, change your Online handle,(as Ernie suggests), state what Giants your new website will cover and give as much information you are able to at this moment in time. I am a relative newbee, to a lot of people who are members of this online community, although i have had interests in Giant Fruit and Vegetables for 10 years and been registered on this website for as long as it has existed.

I am cautious on the net for the same reasons that you guys are tentative about trusting me. In the past I have recieved several emails screened by my virus checker from a spoofed email, [email protected]
Thus my reluctance to provide my real email address etc.
The internet is indeed a place to proceed with care. I've done much more reading here than I have posting under the several handles I've had over the past couple years. (I have a knack for forgetting passwords and such.)

My name is Jay, I am from New Jersey aka the 'internet'.
I'm a young grower and software developer interested in putting the two together. My experience with Gardening only spans a few years, yet I've had the chance to grow some pretty nice things from AG's to many different types of gourds and sunflowers etc. While my best effort at pumpkins has only produced about 140lbs so far, I definitly intend to keep on learning and trying.

As far as the website goes, I feel so inappropriate talking about this here. But since you all encouraged me to not make it a single post... it is geared toward growing giant fruit and vegetables of all kinds. The site has a variety of features that I won't list here, instead you may have a look yourself at www.giantvegenetics.com
Many features are fully functional, some features are still under development, for example DNAtrack. It is a very powerful site built from a collection of open source solutions and a modified commercial forum software package.

One look at the work I've put into the site should convince you I'm not doing this to scam or take advantage of anyone on the internet. My goal is to provide a structure which can then be used by the community as a knowledge repository and resource. A place to learn and to teach, I'm pretty sure ya'll know what I'm saying here. Anyhow, for future discussions I'd feel much better if you went to my site to talk about it, or contacted me via email. I feel extremely weird talking about it on someone elses forum.

Take a look. It looks like it has potential! The thing that sparks my curiosity the most is the genetic tracking program you have. How does that work?

Cool! Looks like it could be a good site with contributions of input/data/pictures/expertise.
I'd be willing to help out, that is if there would be any contribution an old hillbilly mountain man could make :0)

GV,

Sounds a bit shady bud. If you are doing nothing wrong, you have no reason to hide. The fact you have posted on this site under several different names certainly raises an eyebrow. That bit about not wanting to give out your true email address just doesn't wash. Also, doesn't this web site have provisions for supplying users with forgotten passwords? There's no reason to create multiple user names. Under what names did you post your messages here? Let us know so we can search the archives and get a better picture of your intent. I already have a pretty good idea which names you have used.

The guy can't take your money, or rob you in any way IF, you don't give him personal info that would allow that. Shoot, no harm in contributing some data on your pumpkins, or sunflowers, etc.
How are you gonna be scammed by doing that?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not taking up for "Jay", but I fail to see how he's gonna scam anything from me as I certainly won't give him money, my SSN, address, etc. If he'd like some genetic history of my labors, why not?

BTW...hey "AGitated", are you ever positive about *anything*? I'm not trying to bust your chops here because I don't know you, and you could be the nicest guy in the world BUT...you sure seem to have pretty much a negative spin on your replies to message board topics. If I'm wrong then I apologize up front, but I don't think I've read a positive sounding post from you yet.

I have no interest in argueing with you. If you wish to stalk which accounts I've had in the past feel free it is your time. While your at it do your research and find that many others have also recieved emails as I described on a recurring basis. Also when one puts in a fake email to avoid receiving virii via email, one can not recover a forgotten password. Mmmmkay?

"Let us know so we can search the archives and get a better picture of your intent. "

You may view my intent at my site. I'm finished talking about this here, out of respect for BP.com.

Southern,

You are right, I am a nice guy and not negative in my views. I would like to think of myself as a voice of reason in an often unrealistic environment. You may not like what I say but every word of it is truth, unlike much of what is been submitted here by others. Once you read the previous posts this GV guy has made here, I suspect your enthusiasm for him may wain a bit.

Not trying to bust on you Agitated, just wanna see you smile a bit. You know..happy, happy, joy, joy, weighoffs a-comin' and I get to take my toy(s)!! :0)
Yea well, like I said...you can't get burnt unless you allow yourself to be. If the site was fully functional and full of data, it could be very interesting.
Golden Rule fellows!

Uh, folks, I wasn't trying to paint a target on the guy. Check out the website. It looks real cool, and worth the effort that it takes to contribute data pertaining to the vegetables you have grown. The concept is good, and the groundwork has been laid.

Just be smart. AND kind. :)
