Subject: Does vine vigor=pumpkin vigor?

I'm wondering if the growth rate of a pumpkin vine(due to genetics and/or soil fertility) corresponds to the growth rate of the pumpkin. For instance, If you have a fast growing vine, will your pumpkin likely grow fast. If this is the case, you should be able to tell somewhat how fast your pumpkin will grow based on vine growth. I only grew one plant this(my first year). The vine seemed to grow at a moderately slow pace, and so did my pumpkin. Also, do you notice quite different growth rates, with different genetics.

Doug- my observations have been No, plant vigor (or vine for that matter) does not correspond to fruit growth. And honestly, I find that the runty or average looking plants typically produce my best fruit. 501 beachy plant was nothin special, produced my largest to date. The plants that really stood out in June this year are currently compost right now. Go-Go runts!
