Just curious if there's any solid word on if there will even be a weighoff at Clarence this year. I tried emailing him a week ago, and no response yet. Nobody that i have talked to has heard anything.

Maybe you should post that you need a lifter, tarp, or some seeds. He usually doesn't hesitate to chip in THEN!

I would check one of the more recent posts regarding tarps that Ray replied to. Perhaps he has a new email addy. In which case you might find it on the post.

Yes there is a Clarence weigh-off on September 25th. I've been so busy with Tarp orders and picking pumpkins that my time has been limited to just about that. I do try to take care of anyone who needs a tarp and make that my #1 this time of year. After 20+ years growers are now finding out that our tarps are the best! And our strap lifters are have been in good demand also. You can't beat the price either! Clarence will be offering the same prize money as last year and still unbeknown to some a $10,000.00 prize for a new world record! Hope to see you there. Ray Waterman P.S. I have thousands of hours in giant pumpkin/contest development and as far as I'm concerned I have credit due in that realm. www.atlanticgiant.com

So you get the top 3 fruits, al for 1800 bucks, you keep the fruits and use them as great advertisements for your business, brings in another couple thousand in revenue, then rip the seeds out after the season, sell them for 5-10 bucks a piece at 4-600 seeds per fruit. Hmmmm great for you.. bad for the grower.
Neighboring weigh offs pay the same top 3 prize monies, the person keeps the fruit to sell for as much as another grand or more, and also more than likely works a deal to the buyer for the seeds back to do as the grower pleases.
Altoona, Cooperstown, Oswego, St Catherines.. all legitimate drives, get the prize money, keep the seeds and fruit, tough choice..
PT Barnum of AG's I have heard you referred as.. This is true because his famous saying was "A sucker born every minute"..
