Stem rot got the best of me. I half expect it to be completely disconnected when I go out this morning. Yes, in my effort to do everything right, common sense escaped me. It never occurred to me the 'Captn paste' wasn't drying. Live & Learn deb

Deb, if there is still time. scrape the infected area with a water to bleach solution 10:1, then dust lightly with a fungicide like captan, or sulphur, and have a fan blow on the area 24/7. Ive done this more times than i care to recall, but it works. good luck Scott

Thanks Scott, that's what I had been doing except the fan only runs 6 hours before it has to recharge. 400 ft of extention cord is too big a hazard. Just a couple strings still hanging on. It's still my personal best !!!
