First year, and 700+? How many first year growers out there are growing 500+ fruit this year?? I guess this site and the increased information out there is really levelling the playing field (except in my case, unfortunately). Heavy hitters beware...

you hit the nail on the head
years ago you thought you were asking for the holy grail when you tried to get information regarding anything to do with growing giant pumpkins
thanks to several books and tapes on the subject and the internet resources everyone thats willing to do the work
stands a fair chance to be successful
besides i always said we are not curing cancer ( i wish we were ) we are just growing something that will be in the dump sooner or later ( or is it sooner than later ) lol

I've been growing pumpkins off and on since I was a child. I have been growing AGs for two years now. I am crossing my fingers in the hope of breaking my PB of 176.5 (the .5 matters...).

Lawman, please include me in your statement "except in my case."

Congradulations Steve! :-)

Wow, I have been out of town. Thanks for the compliments. The pumpkin win is absolutely due to all the great advice on this site. Thank you all!

Steve: That is impressive especially for a first year grower. Can you tell us what seeds you used and did you do anything fancy regarding fertilizer or warming water?

Seed was a Stevens 900+something (no relation) I have to look back at my paperwork on it. Not a big name.

I liked significantly rotating my fertilizers. Kelp, Peters, Ironite, Calcium. (one kind every three to five days)

Lots of pruning and burying of vines. Drip water and drench.

I spent about 1 hour per day/5 days and multiple hours on weekends for 4 plants.
