Just received this letter from the Mn. Pumpkin grower's...Quote: "Any fruit or vegetable weighed in a previous competition WILL NOT be eligible for prize money at the Nekooska Giant Pumpkin Fest Weigh Off" goes on to say..Also in compliance with GPC rulesany specimen previously weighed or entered at any other national or international competition,Prior to the GPC contest,is not eligible for competition These make the CWPG and the Nekooska fest more consistent with the GPC and other weigh sites. I thought that Mn. growers had been able to take thier pumpkins to Nekooska before??I am sure Wayne Peters did last year? None the less, Shannon, Guess you were Right when you stated: I have never seen an Organic grower at the scales...You will have to come to Mn. to see mine...I will Be There!

Peters did get money last year and we knew his fruit was over 1000 and we knew he would take 1 or 2. We didnt make the rule for the sake of WI growers, but we wanted to make this more fun and have it an exciting time with uncertainty in the weights...makes the competition more fun. I believe the GPC ohio Valley weighoff has a similar rule in place.
I dont think its right for someone to parade around with a big fruit and take top prize money from every weighoff they go too.
To be honest, having all the minnesota growers come here would be awesome....i think it would really help our site. We have a good thing going and you guys would help make it even better.
I know Thorson was going to come down last year, but his big fruit had a whole burrowed into it. It would have been the top fruit probably. You guys are welcome to stop by.

Mn doesnt have a GPC weighoff do they? Anamosa and Nekoosa are the closest to bring them for GPC eligibility.

What does GPC stand for? Is a GPC weighoff needed for an official weight; or what is it's significance?

I totally agree. I live in Wisconsin but have previously taken my best pumpkin to the Austin Minnesota weighoff because our daughter lives in Austin and we just made it a family gathering. I never considered taking the same pumpkin to Nekoosa the next week to try to collect more money.
I think I will go to Nekoosa this year if I have anything left but I certainly won't take the same pumpkin to Minnesota.

Well said Jim...I was hoping someone who brings fruit their fruit to minnesota to chime in on this. It is a race that may only one once. Everyone feel free to join the rest of the Western Wisconsin bunch. We plan on meeting up in Osseo, that Saturday morning. Then traveling down 94. It is fun to watch the gawkers. Shannon

doug, GPC - Got Plenty of Controversy :) :) about the color rule ( Giant Pumpkin Commonwealth ) certified scale and some reliable witness's and you can have an offical weight in my eyes Its significance , To weigh on a given day nation (Canada) wide to compete for the GPC prize money in pumpkins , squash, tomato, and my be a few other veggies Bottom line is if you got a pumpkin/squash that is world class weight go to a GPC weigh-off site to compete for the GPC money, but that is just my 2 cents Gene
