What is the definition of a "sound fruit"? Does a soft spot dq it?

bushwacker im not an expert but here goes if your talking about a soft spot the size od a dime or quarter and its not real deep then scrape it out, spray it with a 50/50 bleach and water solution and put a fan on it --- in a pinch you could also for faster drying use a hair drier ( gently ) over the area
if your talking about a large soft spot then i would think its all done
if your talking about stem rot that looks and feels bad then just trim the stem back to good area before the trip
in any event you should never take a pumpkin to a weigh off that has a soft spot that can not be repaired, then i would say that it is not sound------ its a judgment call on your part
