hello to all! I have 2 questions. when is it a good time after fruit set to lay something under the pumpkin? softball, basketball size? and when does one start to position the pumpkin? what size is good? Thanks carol= gp

Hi, I would wait no longer than softball size to place something under the pumpkin. After that it would not be easy to hold it up and place something under it. Caution do not lift it up any higher than you need to.
Positioning. I went by the book and waited until it was basketball size. These are my way's. You will probably get other answers. Pick the one that is best for you

hi, as water suggested, i placed a 1"thick styrofoam panel under my softball sized pumpkin on 7/15...hoping this candidate makes it all the way. still room to manuever thru the patch w/o damaging too much foliage. fortunate enough to have a long stem on this specimen, so i have already started moving into proper 90* angle to the vine, in very small increments daily, probably less than 1/4" good luck to you and all. duff in new england.
