Tonight a small but raucous group gather in the 12 hundred block of 15th ave south in Clinton iowa to witness something pretty darn special...The fruit was lifted and placed on a pallet....then lifted on to a truck and weighed on a certified scale...witnessed by several work employees and my family members and Marc Petersen's family members and Mike Frantz from Walcott Iowa came up to also be a witness.... She went to the scales taping 410" ..the scale told the tale....1432#...AWESOME!!! I have to admitt. It was awesome to see her make it to the scales...everything seems rock solid!!! bottom flat as can be....nothing even hinting of problems...Thank God we got her there!! Thansk to all..I'll do some checking to see who won some seeds!!! Best wishes to all on the remaining 3 weeks!!

Hey Dan,
My sincerest congratulations to you! The second biggest fruit ever grown!!!
You once mentioned that you plugged the developing split before it went through to the cavity. Did you check out the split by now (removing the plugging material)?
If it didn't get worse and the split doesn't go through you have an official new World Record!

Thanks for all the great guesses....and yes it was a heck of a run....as far as the crack goes...we left her caulked...is it thru to the cavity??.we are almost sure BUT the Anamosa site deserves to have this pumpkin in attendence to show her off and after alot of thought between Marc and myself we decided we would not risk "letting air in" to check it..we will peel the small area and inspect when we arrive in Anamosa on October 2nd. provided she stores that long.We really want to take her out and she "seems' solid as a rock and after 4 weeks since the split you would think the sighs would be showing by now....So as it stands...We wait ...to see proof positive that it goes though ....but we are 99% sure it does....We just want to make sure the Norlins and Anamosa get what they deserve....That is one GIMONGOUS fruit from the Carlson Petersen patch . Even as Exhibition only.....It will turn a few heads!!LOL!!! DAN AND MARC

Yes this is something Scotty Armstrong and I have been doing for the past few years..Marc Petersen and I are on board with Scott A on "our " tech . for growing these things.....Marc and I would love to share what worked for us this year in Iowa.....Call it "Giant pumpkins on a budget"..... I am not saying other things don't work....or wouldn't work..We are just willing to share with others...what 2 guys in iowa did to prep their soil and grow the second largest pumpkin ever weighed. growth rates and everything else.We would love to help or atleast show and tell ....so others can enjoy or possibly enjoy some of th esame type results. damn good jobs guys. over 1400, wow is that impressive. what was the average poundage per day, about 20? it had to have put on 45 to 50 pounds in one day somewhere in the peak growth period. unbelievable. hope the split healed up for you guys, but even if it didn't, its still an incredible feat you both accomplished. the midwest has put itself on the pumpkin growing map this year in a big way...pun intended.

Shazzy....she was crazy..and Petey did a wonderful job while I was out running around the country with my family..what was I thinking!!LOL!! some numbers for those wondering....these are estimate using the BPbook #2 chart......actual was probably slightly higher.... day 10......27 "cir day 16....60" cir day 20.....85 x 55 x 54....194"....est 164 day 26....115 x 72 x 72....259" ...est 364 day 30....130 x 80 x 80 ...290....est 497 day 33....did not record but taped her when I got back from Ohio.....est was 650..yes 3 days of 50 pounds....SCARY!! thought it would go that week..it did not.... day 37....154 x 91 x 94....339....est. 765....268 pound week AFTER it reached 500# day 40.....160 x 95 x 98....353".....856.... day 44.....169 x 98.5 x 103...370.5"....980 est another 215 pound week.... day 45 she split...or she started to split...Marc sealed it as it went....after 4 days no more caulk needed..nothing sense either... day 51....179.5 x 102.5 x 107....389.5"...1120 est another 140 after the split.... day 56...185.5 x 104 x 109.5....399.....1200 est..... day 58....187.5X 104.5 x 110...402"....No chart in book day 66....191 X 107 X 112....410.....again no chart... day 71.....same measurements....we decide it's time and remove...Actual weight..1432 Est on Agg site was 1407 That my friends is a pumpkin growth ride I figure Marc and I will never see again....just plain AWESOME!! and we never once hit it with any fertilizer or seaweed or kelp or foliar anythign....just water maybe 3 times during the season... Over a 4 week stretch it did like 825# or somethign like that...just plain amazing if you ask me.... Hope this answers some questions DAN AND MARC

YES....it did average a little over 20 lbs a day! the peak growth was a average of over 38 pounds a day for a week! as far as the midwest putting itself on the map......the midwest is more than capable of making huge noise, the only thing slowing us down is our weather. this summer has been cool and for the most part bug free two thing you dont get in iowa very often. we have gotten the weather most of the boys in canada receive and we are posting some big numbers. when this season is complete take a look at how many G.P. growers call iowa home and how many of them will have huge fruit. Dan and i agree it could be another 10 years before we get our chance again with weather like we've had, rest assured we will be ready!
thanks to everyone it been a great ride!
oh yeah....no fert's!

Please tell me you guys had a soil test done before the season got under way & still have the report. You might also do another test now to find out how much that monster ate along the trip.
If economical patch management is still the desire, then I'll test the soil at THE premier US lab (CLC) for free.
