question- have any of you had one of these ugly creatures, and also had the misfortune to have the pollinator plant throw a birdbath too? i want to know what the results (shapewise) were from birdbath x birdbath crosses.

These birdbaths that you are asking about are usally caused by the pumpkin growing upside down. Without close inspection as the fruit grows and proper vine position the pumpkin will pull itself onto the vine thus causing a birdbath. Had some pretty big birdbaths though but its not a favorable shape to grow a monster.

I had a 712 Kuhn that was that shape and I SELFED it. All progenies seem to have the same shape. I don't know if this helps you as I didn't do a cross.

I'm not talking about a matter of simple vine positioning, i mean the ones that are so tall, yet so short (from stem to blossom), that they eventually have to tip over one way or the other to avoid lifting the stem almost 2 feet off the ground.
a selfed wheel might be close to an example of what i'm looking for, but i was wondering if anyone had crossed two plants that both went wheel. i think you might have less of a chance of getting more tall ones from wheel x wheel.
