Anybody have experience safely moving a split fruit? I generally use the 'tip & tarp method' to get it on the trailer...This year I have an EXH fruit with a Dill ring split that I'm hoping not to make worse while loading. I'm worried the 'tipping' will make the split worse. Any advice on 'how to' or 'how NOT to" ?!? Does tipping side-to-side vs. end-to-end make a difference?

Although I have never moved a split pumpkin, I would try wrapping the pumpkin in plastic wrap before moving it.

Using a liftimg ring will definately distribute the weight more evenly, and eliminates some human lifting "error". (Keep the lifting straps away from the dill ring.)

yes, either that or some ratcheting cargo straps, with
appropriately-placed soft bathroom rugs or similar as
padding, could be used to "immobilize" the split.
you would basically "contain" the fruit with several straps,
gently tightened.
i have not had this experience. good luck!!! world-record?

Don't tip end-to-end. That thin blossom end may split too. Alwayt tip side-to-side. -- Chris

Kilr, that's a good point about avoiding running a strap in a dill ring for lifting a pumpkin. It would be so handy to want to put a strap in a dill ring, but that's a weak spot and should be avoided. Good thinking.

O.K. Thanks, all. We'll see how it goes.
No, Eric, no world record. But definitely an Edwards family record. (Taping at upper 600#s.) This ought to be a good one for show & tell at my kids' school...
