On some of my seeds in the exact same spot the outer coating of the seed is chipped and its only on the very tip of the seed. (there is no holes in the seed)The seed is in great shape and will germinate with no problem. I plan on giving all my perfect looking seeds away first but when it comes down to my last 75 seeds or so they are going to have a small chip on the tip of the seed. What I was wondering since this is the first year giving away seeds, if growers mind that little chip. I would not try to trade a seed with a little chip in it if i didnt have to, but if thats all you have left what eles can you do? I was just wondering how other growers felt about getting a seed like this.

Brooks,

Some of the most desirable seeds in the world are missing the upper most part of the second seed coat. Is this what you mean?

Yes Tremor, the chips are all in the same spot, on the upper flat part at the edge of the seed.(Not where the root comes out)It's still solid. I just didnt know how people felt about getting a seed with the little chip on the top edge of it. Some people are real picky yanno,LOL

P.S. Tremor you should be getting snail mail soon, I sent you my 572 seeds to the address you have on ur emails.

Thanks,
Brooks

Sly...Most really aren't picky--just ignorant if they make a stink. As long as the seed is solid...has something in it...it should be viable. Chips, areas with no tan seedcoat, dimples, pimples, cracks, ridges, and minor black spots are all worth a shot. Best bet so you sleep at night is to send two seeds....one "normal" (although I would consider all these blemishes normal) and one with the chip.....later on when your seed gets famous and desireable and hits the market as trade material a short comment or description of the "blemish" is warranted.....but as season's end swap seeds they are what they are.....G

Sly, the "chip" is very common in AG seeds, I have found that it usually occurs in our fruit that havent completly matured, yet the ones we planted all grew fine and have produced some of our most memorable fruit.

i have the samething brooks on some seeds. i test
germianted 2 with these chips from my 764 that went down
by just putting them in moist soil in my warm solarium
and both germinated fine. i did have the first two
leaves pinched in the middle a bit on one test plant, but that was most likely from a seed coat pinch or something.
that one straightened out too and is starting to vine in
a small test patch area to make sure they don't flatvine
and hopefully get a look at the color of a female blossum
before the first frost hits.
