Well the splits continue weighed 709 McCallum at 966 lbs,1260 Weir at 1035 and finally the 845 Bobbier at 1135{leaking bad i know it went over 1150)have 3 left out of 12 i started with. One nice thing is biggest one left is out of my own 1370 hopefully it will hold up.So like i said 2 over 1300 last year should have split them up over 2 years.Jerry

Sorry to hear about all your split problems this year! Might be a new spit record... 9 out of 12...lol
You did really well with those fruits until they split!

Good luck with your remaining fruits for the rest of the season!

Jerry: I think 2004 will be remembered around the country as the year of the splits.
But, can't wait to see how your 1370 weighs!

sorry about the splits, i have had them here too.
nothin to say but that sucks. we have trees changing
colors here already so every plant got stressed this
year with the cold weather in the midwest.
i have to believe that the internal flesh develops
cold joints like in concrete and these areas are the first
to fail. i would be interested to know if anyone ever
grew a pumpkin with a 65 degree thermostat soil
heating cable under styrofome under the pumpkin.
i am not sure if this under side heat source would
do more damage than good by creating un even areas where
some are more warmer than other places of the pumpkin.
it would be nice to throw a blanket over the top with
a heat source below to not only retain heat, but maintain
steady enough warmth to prevent the interior flesh from
reaching below 60 degrees at any place or time, especially
during days 30 to 65.
any thoughts?

Sorry to hear that Jerry I thought this whole split thing had past but I guess its still with us. One question was did you have them covered with a blanket? Also was these last ones blossom end splits?
