Question; I am a first time grower and had a somewhat late pollination date of July 22nd, I had to harvest my pumpkin at day 41 in order to get it entered into our Vermont state fair. It was growing at an average weight of 20 Lbs a day when harvested. Actual scale weight was 456 Lbs.(Took second place). Will the seeds be mature enough to harvest?? Thanks in advance for your input!

Some of the seeds should be good. The immature ones will be easy to spot. Dropping the dried seeds will yield some that sound "light". Of these, some will actually be OK. Try to do a germination test after they're all cleaned & dried.

I lost a 150 pound pumpkin last year to stem rot. I rolled it down in the long grass and forgot about it. Then, it all broke down and appeared to rot. I happened to look in what what was left of it and lo and behold, the seeds had germinated and had green leaves unfolding. Of course, they were killed shortly by frost, but the fact remains the seeds were mature at a very very young age. Yours should be fine. But by all means do the germination test as Tremor suggests.

I just got done drying some seeds from a 33 day old pumpkin last week, though VERY thin yet about 50% of them germinate.
