I have 200 (aprox.) lbs pumpkin growing in my patch and I have a competition on 9-10th October. I want to keep it growing as fast as possible till the end of September. What can I do ?

Warmth is the key. Try to keep the vine and pumpkin warm. We use plastic sheeting to create a little hot house effect day and night. Keep watering consistently, go gently on any fertilizer, keep the vine dry and free of powdery mildew and hope for the best.

Good luck.

Hey Pumpkin Man, I have a friend on Whidbey who is growing his first giant this year. Are their any weighoffs in your area? His name is Mike and I'm Jerri.

Absolutely. The Whidbey Island Giant Pumpkin Contest will be on October 9th at 12:30 pm at the Coupeville High School Gymnasium parking lot. The contest is restricted to Whidbey Island residents only and is part of Coupeville's HarvestFest held every year. First place brings bragging rights and a handsome purse of somewhere between $25 and $50. We also have a giant zucchini contest, ugliest and prettiest giant pumpkin contests and a pumpkin pie contest. There are usually a few joke prizes thrown in so any pumpkin, even a smaller one, could win "big". This will be our 9th year and we have a good time for a few hours eating pie, weighing the pumpkins and planning for next year. We'd love to have him bring his entries.
