Hi "simpleman2", I assume you are new to this site. In that case it would be a good idea to introduce yourself, say something about the plants you grow, have a diary and show pics (which is pretty good in case you have problems that need to be identified) and not to "go like a bull at a gate". And of course not to double post "just trying to get a quick reply". This ain´t no self-service shop here. On the other hand, welcome and grow it big.

S,

Where on the fruit is the hole & how big is it? Clean like a spike? Or rough like it was gnawed on by an animal? Wet & rotting or dry & firm?

try to use a fungicide powder such as sulfur, captan, manzate or the like.

S2,
Follow Tom's advice. If there is any soft rotting material, scrape it very very lightly first to remove the wet stuff. A Q-Tip might be helpful. Then dust it. A fan is also useful to keep it dry.

I hear you simpleman2. I think way too much about A.G.'s now. I'm already planning enough crosses to keep me busy the next 3 years or so. I keep changing my mind. Should I breed for size, color, or both??? First I need this seed, then that one, etc. I've really got to simplify things on the breeding end.
I wish you, your mother, and your pumpkin the best!

I think you got mostly good advice Simpleman2. With the exception of that most patronizing response indicating some sort of protocol when seeking to share and get insight from fellow growers. Most of us are not that worldly. Best of luck.

Oops sorry if my comment sounded harsh, I had a bad day. I just chimed in from a german vintage car board that was literally spammed with something like "hey I´m new my babe is down what can I do" the last months and it´s no fun to read there anymore.
I apologize for sounding patronizing, that was not my intention. It´s not the way people talk it over here at BP.com.

Simpleman2, Something ate a hole into my largest squash (mice from the looks of it) that sucks.... taped out at 339" yesterday, looks like the bastards have been in it for a while now as the fruit has been looking pale and flat for a week or so. If your cavity hasnt been breached apply a fungicide or sulpher as recommended above, set out mouse traps if your cats are lazy like mine....
