How come everyone is happy with pumpkins that go heavy? I think I would prefer a pumpkin to be taped at 2000lbs and go 25% light. Does anyone share my viewpoint?

I'd sooner have a pumpkin that taped 800 lbs and went 10% heavy then one that taped 800 lbs and was 10% light.

I'll take a 700 or 800 lb pumpkin and have them be 10% more or less. At this point, I'm not real picky...

Farmer Tom, In regard to the 705 Stelts, this is one of the most sought after seeds in the world. It has grown a 1230, 1140, 1049, 1016, 966 and 922 all or most with an awesome orange color. The fruit might appear to weigh light, but some of these monsters are literally off the charts. I am not convinced that a fruit weighing light (or heavy) is tied specifically to genetics, I think soil and weather conditions have a lot to do with it too...Joe P.

Because you beat the guy at the weighoff with the should have been. Being heavier is what its all about when it comes weighoff day.

Mr Jensen at the Spokane County Fair had a pumpkin that measured 540#, fully fifty pounds bigger than my clone measured. I smoked him by 50 pounds! Boy was he mad! I will take a pumpkin that weighs over the chart every time...!

Joe, the 705 is great, I wouldn't give it up, it produces awe inspiring fruit with size AND color, that's amazing, it's just kind of disapointing to have one estimated at 1346 and have it wiegh 1230, which is still REALLY huge. Tom

The charts are only a tool to monitor growth during the season. I am not saying I don't like to have a fruit heavy to the charts....but I never seen an estimated pumpkin win a weigh-off. Only final weight counts when it comes to the final moment.
A light 1062 lber still wins the weigh-off.
