I am getting ready for the weighoff in our provincial exhibition. I have four pumpkins weighing up to 300?? est. pounds. However, I have one squarish pumpkin that has four "legs" with the blossem end tucked a foot or so up inside. From the front it actually has big thick "cheeks" and you can see two more on the opposite side....so it actually has four big thick legs. Would this weigh heavy as a normal pumpkin with roughly the same ott or would it be more like a wagon wheel??? Or should I go with a normal shaped ones They weigh within 10 pounds of each other ott measurements. I am allowed to enter one under my hubbys name...so should I go with the "weirdo and one other or take two normal shaped ones????? (These may or may not stand a chance.) We had a really late growing season this year and the largest last year at the Ex. weighed 337 pounds. Mine (sadly unentered) weighed 422 and 422 1/2 pounds. Please help...this is really bugging me...thanks, Sue

Is that the weird one in your August 20th diary entry? That's a weird lookin' thing. Did it have normal lobes? It almost looks siamese or something. But anywho, I've heard that the weird shaped ones go heavy, but I don't really know from personal experience. I would also look at the genetics of your pumpkins and see which ones tend to go heavy or light, since they all measure about the same. Anywho that's all I can help. If all else fails, give your hubby the ugly one ;-)

Hi Brigitte....ROTFLMAO....yup thats the weirdo alright. Yes as far as I can remember the blossem looked entirely normal. It was my first set, on July 12th. I don't know the genetics for sure. it is a possible 482 Gardner, a 500 Gardner, or an 845 Van. The ink washed off the seed while it was germinating and by process of elimination, I narrowed it down to those three. It almost looks like a big flying saucer. I will try to post a new pic of it tomorrow. A first the front "Cheeks" *grin* did not reach the ground. (the two "cheeks" behind are resting on the ground..then the front ones started descending till they are almost touching the ground now. It is not growing any at all in cir. (It will get a few smirks at the Frex for sure.) Now that you mention it, it just might resemble a traditional "applehead Siamese" but to me it looks much more like a big fat rearend...LOL. Thanks for replying. How are yours doing this year? Have a great day, Sue
