Well my 747.2 Hunt finally bit the dust. It's sucks to lose a pumpkin after all the hard work that goes into growing them. I went out this morning and the stem split had finally gone through into the cavity. I had to cut the plant off at the stump and all the vines past the fruit a week ago to try and keep it going for the local fair. The final measurement was 305 OTT or about 583#'s on day 48. It only grew 1" OTT in the last week, but it was enough to make it split even deeper. This plant survived an early flood and become the fastest grower in the garden. I still have two in the garden (842 Eaton & 1097.5 Beachy) that hopefully makes it to the weigh-off......Phil

That's too bad. Here's hoping the other two held together for you.

Too bad Phil, that pumpkin has a nice shape to it. Anyone else growing the 747 Hunt? Doug

My 747 is doing fair, had a growth spurt and it nearly tore the stem off, well a break of about 50%, it is still growing, about 215 at this point, but it has slowed dramatically.Same phil, cool weather, flat vined at firdt, slow growth, then a big ol surge, we shall see!Highs have been in the 80's for the last few days...All Is Well !

Hey, I'll trade you seasons Phil! I've seen your 1097 and 842 and you've got nothing to be whining about ;0). I know it hurts for sure but you have to work these things into the equation. These things happen. If it was easy then the satisfaction of getting a truly big one to fair wouldn't be as great. Your going to have to wait another year before you hit 1000# with your own seed, that's all. You'll just have to be satisfied with becoming a heavy hitter this year.It must be nice! ;0) Any tips?

Thanks, Guys. I was hoping my 747 would produce something big. It had the potential, but it couldn't handle the stem split. Cowpie, I am light years away from becoming a heavy hitter. LOL. I passed out a lot of seeds from my 747, so I wanted to let people know how it did this season. My other 2 are doing fine and should make the weigh-off with a little luck......Phil
