Geezze is it cold! Looks like we may be looking at some frost soon here in VT. I live in a higher elevation so it is way colder here! I have left the plastic on my patch after of the threat of hail. I was hoping it may hold some well needed heat. And maybe prevent some of the powdery mildew from spreading with all the rain? Anyone else gotta dome? Also if so could you share designs or ideas for frost protection and warmth? Thanks Doeski
My Dome picture is in my diary http://bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryView.asp?season=2004&grower=24118&action=L

Doeski: if you live at a higher elevation then thats a plus when it comes to frost, as frost forms first in the low valley areas, this is becuase cold air is heavier more dense than warm air so it sinks or pools into the lower areas first, thats why the deeper sheltered valleys will usually recieve the first frosts of the season, the important factors for frost to form are clear skies, calm to no wind and a low dewpoint. the local Vt forcast is as follows---Tonight. Mostly clear. Patchy dense valley fog forming late. Isolated frost possible in the more sheltered valleys. Lows around 40. Except in the 30s in the more sheltered valleys. Winds becoming light and variable.
notice it does state valleys ! so you might be o.k. simple plastic covers and sheets should be enough to protect from light frosts a sprinkler turned on will also help. good Luck Glenn Peters
