My pumpkin weighed a EST OF 572 pounds, I had 675 Seeds come out of that pumpkin, Is that normal for this size? All of the seeds where the same size too(pics in diary). My pumpkin was about 70 days old when I cut it open. Whats about the normal for seeds out of a 500 TO 600 pound pumpkin?

Brooks,

It's a good seed count. Did you record or do you remember how many lobes (segments) the female flower had? High lobe counts, good pollination & such all make for high seed counts.

That's a very good count. Mine typically have ranged from 300-600. Agree with Steve's comments. -- Chris

Steve, It had 5 lobes, and I dumped a truck full of pollen in it because i wanted to be sure it took,LOL. I wonder if the big hitters dump lot of pollen inside there pumpkin to get alot of seeds so it will weigh heavy , this has never really crossed my mind till now.

I think once enough pollen is on the lobes, the rest is wasted. All the same, I doubt there's any harm in using more unless it's wet or tainted by bugs carrying stray pollen from other plants.

The element of time plays a significant role in how much pollen is used around here. Too little time (work, child, life, etc) yields too little pollen it seems. LOL I really need to work on this. For all the effort we put into our plants & patch, I really need to better balance the effort in the 2 week window of pollination.

Yea, that really gives me something to think about now for next year, more pollen , more seeds , more weight maybe. Now if i could only get a hold of a 1260 Weir, and a 914 Wentzell,,Hmmmmmmmm.lol
