Do what Paul said. I may take a few days to get authorized before you can access the best parts of the site. Atlantic Giant Pumpkin growing should probably be called Atlantic Giant Pumpkin BREEDING. Selected seeds are used, specific male flowers are used to (almost always) hand pollinate specific female flowers. While many of us don't know the technical scientifics behind pumpkin genetics, many know or believe that specific offspring of certain growers produce certain specific characteristics, such as size or shape, color, etc. Therefore, many seeds have proven to be superior to standard off-the-shelf seeds, and some of these "superior" seeds may be superior to other excellent seeds. Usually the seeds from the biggest pumpkins don't produce big pumpkins. Look for seeds from the "parents" of these monsters. Look at the different world records or largest pumpkins and trace their family trees and you will find many similarities betwwen their "families." Often, just seeds from one or two noted pumpkins may prove to have parented or grandparented (or even great-grandparented)as many as hundreds of really big pumpkins. This is genetics. Ask Farmer Tom for a good list of genetic strains; I think he may have them all down, filed, dated, characterized & cross-indexed. Plus, he's been collecting the best of seeds to give away to people looking to grow Atlantic Giants. (right kilr?)
