At day 30 (201 lbs)a green squash on a Dill l2 was accidentally severed. This accident required the contents of a 1.75 liter bottle to ease the pain. The fruit was put into storage and at day 28 it's still quite solid.
I'm thinking even with the fruit off the vine the seeds could have continued to mature, what do you think?

yeah, i'm thinking that it should help to hold on to it until it starts to get a little soft to try to mature the seeds a little. couldn't hurt.

Jim, Expect a lot of immature whities. Of those that did form on the outside, probably fewer than half will germinate. The drop test helps, but even some light seeds will surprise you.
I agree with Andy to keep the fruit real cool & leave them inside until "the smell" or any signs of softness arise. Though it really doesn't seem likely that new seeds could arise once seperated from the main, I believe that the ones forming will have "pull" on the inner tissue for a while even post harvest. So maybe you get 10 viable seeds instead of 6 or something like that.
40 is short 50 is better 60 is good 70 is great 80 is ideal

capt, i cut a 191 lb cull that sat in the middle of the patch for the past 25 days. it was 30 days old when i culled it. i opened up the pumpkin last sunday to find 60 very nice mature seeds, with at least 50 with white tips where the outside hard shell never finished forming to the top. i recently tested germianted other seeds from my 764 est. that also had many of these white tips. these seeds did germinate, but the first true leaf was pinched, the second deformed and toast, the third one is straightening out, but i would have to consider this to mean the seed was almost there but slightly premature. this premie might be trouble down the line. so i have 60 fully developed seeds from a 30 day old one that stayed in tact until day 58 on harvest. many immature white seeds present and these cool sacks of air that are the beginnings of the seed process. very weird to see little bubbles of air in a clear sac that somehow becomes a seed. so maybe you will get 50 to 100 good ones out of it. good luck shazzy

Yeah, a 30 day year old can have some seeds viable, and decent for growing even. This year I grew one of my 303 Sawtelle seeds from a fruit I grew last year which was around 30 days old. It happens to be growing my largest one this year out of my 20 something plants.... Female was 825 Shymanski, male was 940 Mombert 98. This was my "new and improved" 801 genetic...lol... I seem to have been on to something...
