i'm staring at my pumpkin today. i'm slowly pacing back and forth trying to remember things i read here on this site. have i tried everything? how can i make you grow some more i asked. currently my biggest pumpkin is 77-55-55 or 187ott. what used to be my biggest has slowed down and now is at about 180ott. thing is,,, my second fattest guy a perfect pumpkin and even though the other one is not so shabby looking, i have been trying like crazy to get him to eat, or drink or,, well u know what i mean. grow! so i'm staring and staring and bam! it hits me. somewhere on this site i remembered reading about stem placement or examples of how you want your pumpkin to be sitting in relation to the vine. \ my vines have been buried for along time now, so the root right below the pumpkin was pretty well attached i guess i mean stuck. i decided to try something that felt risky to me anyway. by my self i started to uncover a couple feet of the vine on both sides of the pumpkin. my pumpkin my not be huge by a lot of the guys and girls whom visit this site but it was now big enough to have grown into a position where the stem was pointing straight up towards the sky. hmmm. as carefully as i could i loosened 3 tap roots. i'm on my hands and knees now. i got one hand underneath my pumpkin trying to lift and relieve some weight on the vine while at the same time and with my other hand trying to loosen up those tap roots. i'm sweating up a storm at this point and got myself into a holy #*&@! sort of a situation. you see,,as it is, this pumpkin has a remarkable roundness about it. maybe if i had hands the size of shaq's this wouldn't be such a problem but as it turned out, i was literally holding my pumpkins life in my hand. the pumpkin wanted to role off to either side and after about five minutes of what reminded me of what we call here in newengland as "fish tailing"cont."intuition" part2.

"fish tailing"(your driving in a snowstorm sense an awkwardness about the direction you are traveling. you realize that feeling because you actually are traveling sideways.u panic.yank steering wheel one way only to be headed for the mailman. you yank the otherway, ur heading now for the trees. if observed from behind, this would appear like a fish flapping back/forth) my pumpkin was fish tailing on the palm of my hand under. i attempted to put it back down but in my other hand i now had the vine a foot off the ground!. it i could have held it their for the next month it would be exactly where i wanted it. but i was going down fast and hard. in all the horror i created for myself to be i began to here that Jim Morrison song play in my head.. "this is the end. my only friend, the end" hold on a minute and the music screeched to a stop. before getting on my hands and knees to start this whole fiasco, (because the ground was pretty soaked from a recent storm) i had placed a left over chunk of insulation where my knees would be. i could barely remember putting it there at this point and was almost delirious there was not one inch of me that was not caked in mud. so, as if the angels commanded me, my feet started to try and clamp on to the insulation. i think without even my mind telling them so, my feet through the piece of insulation up in the air. would you believe that i saw this insulation land right in front,, i mean one inch in front of my own nose!. before i even knew what to do, my mouth was wrapped around this mud covered piece of left over construction material. all at the same time,, vine, pumkin, and insulation and with my last ounce of strength, i let go..when i opened my eyes, the stem stress was gone. the pumpkin sat stable, and the sun went down for another day. it grew more that night than i had seen all year. i dont know if it has anything to do with my repositioning it or it it was its way of thanking me for not ki

Maybe if we did set the video recorder on a tripod before going into the patch everyday we'd either get better at growing or rich from doing it.
It's OK Blockhead. The rest of the world doesn't understand. But we do.
