I'm a pretty quiet guy who doesn't like to say a lot of negative things on the site, but I had to bring up a topic that I think is kind of sad actually. I've been growing ag's for 4 years and been on the site for 3 years or so. I can't help but notice that people get treated differently at times on the site depending on their "popularity" or being well known. It seems like "clicks" in some ways. Ever go into chat, say "hi" and have 15 people ignore you? Then 2 minutes later someone else comes in to chat that is popular and 10 people say hi. Or if your best friend who is on the site grows a personal best and one person replies with "good job!" Someone else more popular grows a personal best and 51 people reply with "good job". The list can go on..... I love this site, it is full of many many awesome people who help out unselfishly and treat everyone the same, from the biggest grower to a newbie. Many of those people have helped me in more ways than I can remember. Thanks! Let's just remember to not fall into the trap of treating some with great attention, and ignoring others. Jimmy

I hear ya Jimmy!
What's worse is when you've been "around the block" a few times and someone new stumbles onto this site and treats you like s%&*! (Sorry, I've been informed I should REPENT and quit using words like that!) I guess it's just like "life in general",(never fair) although I can honestly say I never went the "click" route! I think 15 people saying "hi" is just such a vast waste! I guess we have to learn to either deal with the harshness or just become a lurker, like many have already chosen to do! This site has changed a lot in the past few years, and not ALL for the best. Email me if you ever need advice or to talk.
Down but not out,
another "Jimmy"

I'm not making excuses here, but I think timing has a lot to do with this.
I've experience it both ways in chat Jim. I believe most of that has to do with timing. When first logging onto chat, we can't see what was most recently written. Plus some folks log on then sit there watching TV or get distracted by children, etc & forget to log-off. Therefore the screen says they are on but they don't see you log on. There are also some "typers" who kick out fast furious & often times unnecessary entries that frustrate the other chatters. A lot of folks go into silent mode when this happens.
Here at the regular boards I get frustrated when I see a post I want to comment on, but I'm in the office & the phone rings. I need to check something for a client & already have 2 or 3 screens going so I bail from BP. Now we don't return for a couple hours but the post we wanted to comment on no longer says "new" until someone else has posted to it. Bother.
There are cliques too but such is life. I know I often single out the growers who grow nearest to me in chat to see how they're doing & try hard to ignore all the other chat to try to stay focused on why I entered in the first place. So I supoose that is clicky of me. LOL

Hi Jimmy,
I've had it happen to me several times....but then again I've probably done it to others myself too. I think we all get caught up in our conversations and don't really pay much attention. Being a two finger typer, it's hard enough for me to keep up with 1-2 conversations as it is! I can honestly say that if I ever did make someone feel that way, it was not intentional. I'm sure others who have made me feel the same way didn't intentionally do it either. It's probably just a misunderstanding. Everyone here is great!!

LI, lol. its a microcosm of your typical homeroom class in school. many subcultures of friends and personalities. loners, geeks, jocks, bullies, peacemakers, partiers, mr. or miss popular, the artists, the rebels, some like dungeons and dragons, some like the cubs and some like the whitesox in my case. on this site there is one thing we all can agree on, we are all insane in some little way or we wouldn't bother growing these things at all. the great equalizer is we all like growing pumpkins. the rest is all trivial. i have got all wrapped up in some peoples comments before, and have posted messages i wish i could take back. it is a great site for all it is worth, and overall everyone helps each other out. with people being people in a social forum, clicks and diagreements are bound to occur. that is life almost anywhere you go. sometimes it takes rhinoskin when you put your neck out there, but always check the source to see who is doing the talking before evaluating what has been said. what did i just say...? time for another trip to the fridge for a cold one. lol.

Give people time to get to know you duster, it takes time. Its almost like going up to a stranger on the street and just start talking to them, it usually dont happen. I myself dont think 95 percent of the people do this on perpose in BP,other sites dont compare to this one as far as the people and how helpfull they are. Go into a yahoo chat room or any other for that matter and see what kind of response you Get from people, it just dont compare.Hang in there duster.

yup tremor, I've been here 3 and a half years or so. This is a great site, honestly I love it:) Most people are great! I had just noticed this feeling in small ways for awhile, never said anything before. Anyway, pap, don't take it personal, I wasn't trying to tick anyone off. Just expressing an honest opinion which has an element of truth in it. So I'll just smile to myself and go on:) Jimmy

Hey, Jimmy, I know what you mean. I'm glad to see folks responded to your thread here. Hope that in iteself helps. Frustrating when you want to bounce some ideas off folks and can't get any feedback (for an example see me talking to myself in the "Sag line solution idea" thread). Tremor's always there for us on the disease topics though :-) I guess as a giant pumpkin grower (and a Christian) I'm used to being "on the fringe" anyway, so it doesn't really bother me that much. But I do love a good exhange of ideas, and it's always disappointing when it fizzles. Just remember that when it doesn't click, the other folks just don't know what they're missing! -- Chris

Thanks for the vote of confidence Chris. I saw your sag line idea but had nothing to contribute to it having never dealt with such a thing (yet!).
Jimmy,
Is there a thread in particular or is it water under the bridge now?
