I have a fruit that we pulled out of the patch last night. I have heard to use a solution of 10:1 water and bleach to clean and sanitize. I have noticed that may fruit at weigh-offs REALLY are shining. Any idea what is used to get that incredible shine?

chad,

Be forewarned that the GPC has rules forbidding the use of certain substances to make a fruit "shiny". Your local fair may also have rules. Be sure to check first!

brigitte----------------- olive oil will also change the color ( overnight )
oil is what growers use if it looks like there fruit is turning a bit to green, or to orange up a fruit that is yellow to light orange
i would not use oil with the intention of making a pumpkin shiny, use wilt proof for that
