After returning from a 3 day fishing trip I found that the pride of our patch the 961 Daletas had suffered a blossom end split. It is measuring 139-103-98 and still growing at 800 pounds plus. It surely could have been a new personal best and challenged the 4 digit mark. After a perfect season so far it is difficult to be deflated so quickly. Is there a possibility of having Dr. Phil or someone be a permanent part of the chat room for all of us who lose there loved ones before the weigh off?

I was sorry to see your diary post Ned.

My 961 split it's blossom as well. (See my 'Lost fruit' post below.) I guess this is why the hitters don't really like those high wheel shaped fruit.

Hang in there & I hope the 805 carries you to until Oct 2nd, AND brings you a new PB.

I have found Therapists are not helpful in these events..They tend to look at you like you are crazy, and just do not understand..making your feelings magnified..After all to 99.5% of the people it is just a pumpkin. No use trying to explain it to them. That is why we have Niagara in the winter..

Ned, I felt for you when I saw your diary posts. Are you able to save it? I hope so...

Wish I had planted your 689.5 for myself this year as I have had about the same luck as you. Oh well, we have next year....

Yes to I did catch some fish. One was a beautiful 29 pound 40 inch King Salmon. As far as the pumpkin goes it is in the intensive care unit in guarded condition. I filled the hole and sealed with a grafting wax. It is still packing on weight but I am sure its time won't last long. Mother nature is being gracious and letting me spend some last few days together. I will see how big it will get, may try and figure a plan to get it weighed, but at least will get some good photos of it with my kids to last a lifetime.
