Anyone ever see a pumpkin when it is in its first stages of mold?, Im not sure if my pumpkin is starting to turn green or if its mold. My pumpkin is done growing and is still sitting on the vine, I have green in diffrent places espically in places on my pumpkin where the skin has more stress like on the edges of my pumkin and in the front. It also seems to be turning green in places where it is canaloping. When I touch it it does not wipe off and looks to be under the skin, The skin is hard in these areas, Any Ideas? I hope this made sense. Sorry about not having a picture.

what you are describing is normal, not mold. Many pumpkins, even orange in color will start showing green color in a few places. Sounds like this is what is happening. A pumpkin that is rotting will get soft first. Sounds like yours is fine. Jimmy

Thanks Jimmy, your right, its just in a few places, and its not soft, Thanks alot. Whats the chances of a yellow pumpkin like mine turning green all over? could this happen at my stage of my pumpkin over 55 days old? If i would leave it in the sun you think it would turn more green? Brooks

brooks,
many pumpkins can start turning squashy or into a squash as they grow older. With your pumpkin at 55 days, it will start turning more color or colors:) Some genetics are more prone to having some green in it. Just have to wait and see:) Jimmy

Jimmy MY 1081 R.Wentzell,s family did have squash in it, the mother was the 611.5 Hester and father was the 875 Dill. Southern looked this info up for me.
611.5 Hester= (905 Lyons* '94 x 737 Stellpflug* '96) Both were squash and the 611.5 has grown (3) 1000+, (3) 900+, (1) 800+, (6) 700+, (4) 600+, (2) 500+ 905 Lyons*= (724 Willemse x 755 Craven) 737 Stellpflug*= (539 Stellpflug x 596 Stellpflug) 875 Dill= (914 Wentzell '98 x 715 Dill '96) It's grown (3) 1000+, (3) 900+, (6) 800+, (2) 700+, (4) 600+ 915 Wentzell= (1006 Greer x multiple) 715 Dill= (567.5 Mombert x 804 Zehr)

Brooks....Low-light conditions often increase the greening of a pumpkin....watch out.....if its more than a little green they may call it a squash at some contests.....
