What is the best pre-maitaince and the best solution if you get Borers. I read that they are only around for part of the growing season then they go away

Admire will work as well as long as you use the higher dosage.
Admire and Merit have the same active chemical.

Merit/Admire at .3lbs ai/A twice. Apr 15th & Jul 1st. Talstar/Capture at .33 oz per gallon Jul 1st & 21st, Aug 15th.
I've decreased the interval of time I'm recommending on the Imidacloprid for next year based on some failures (SVB only) that I've either seen or have been reliably reorted.
I've also decided Talstar is kicking Warrior's butt all over the place & will now eliminate Scimitar/Battle/Warrior from my own program from here on out. Part of the reasoning is the anual 2 Spotted & regular Spider Mite issues we get in our patch. For those who never see Mites or who don't mind spraying every 2 weeks, Warrior is fine.

How the heck did I do that?
Anyway....
Talstar/Capture is Bifenthrin which is the most advanced (third generation) synthetic pyrethroid.
Warrior, Battle, Scimitar, Demand, Suspend, etc are all Lambda-cyhalothrin. LC is a second generation synthetic pyrethroid.
Ambush is 25% Permethrin which is also found in Permethrin-Pro, Astro & Pounce but these are the stronger 38.4% or 3.2#EC formulations. There are also some 25% Wettable Powders. All of these do a fine job on SVB too. Permethrin is a first generation synthetic pyrethroid.
Another point to consider: A friend who found Squash Vine Boreres in his vines (he made the second reinforcing application too late) went ahead with his second application of Merit with young Borers in the stems & leaf stalks. They all died within days. He drenched the secondary vines that were infected directly from a watering can.
The Merit or Admire would normally be watered into the root zone immediatley after application slowly so as to avoid puddling.

Which merit is most effective the merit 5g, 2.5g (granular) or the 75 wp (powder)? I guess does it matter if it's applied as a drench or as a granular and watered in? I would guess the watered in works faster. does one last longer?
