I posted a pic of one of my pumpkins in my diary. Want to have a look? It is very odd shaped and I have no idea how to properly measure the circuference or OTT on it. Would you measure straight across the blossem end and around for the cir? or go up into the blossem end cavity, and follow the contours of the pumpkin? Some of you mentioned that it maybe should be done that way....but does anyone know for sure? I have another normal shaped pumpkin and wondered which one would weigh the heaviest. They are both at 200 pounds plus now. (This isn't all that great a weight but we have had a very late cool season this year. Hardly any summer at all.) Two weeks till the exhibition and one needs a 150 pound pumpkin to be eligible for 2nd and third and 250 to be eligible for first....so I can at least enter.

i was nuts enough to have a look, lol! i would measure the circumference just like normal, like that blossom "canyon" was just perfectly flat across the "back" of the pumpkin. THEN, i would measure the "over the top" measurement either by: 1. measuring the entire left "cheek", then measuring through the valley, adding them up and dividing by two, for the ott measurement, or: 2. filling-in the gap there between the two "halves" of the fruit with something like a pillow or similar, which would then give the illusion that you would be measuring actual pumpkin. even if the pillow were too big at first, you could slightly tighten-up the tape until an accurate measurement could be obtained. i didn't go as far as to think about the side to side measurement. i guess, widest point to widest point, halfway down the fruit, although it is at quite an angle. g o o d l u c k lol eric
