Who has white/ cream/ no color/ albino {what ever term you use} color fruits this season? I know it is too early perhaps to know for certain if they will finish wi5h a true white color or not. Still, please post what ever your seeing right now, along with the seed it is beiog grown from.
I've seen lots of "squmpkin" fruits over the years, and I know there will be more this year. Some are grown from seed that nprmally grow orange or green fruit, but are growing white for you instead.

I myself had such a fruit in 2003,as The 303 Sawtelle's mother grew me a white cream colored fruit, and it was from the 825 Shymanski. I pollinated the 825 with males from the 940 Mombert. I didn't get but a few viable seeds out of the fruit, so over the winter I planted a few to see if they were viable. After many failures I finally got one to germinate, and it was cloned once before it was planting time outdoor. This will be the plant I'll have my largest fruit from this season (currently charting around 4 -ish).

The white genetic I'm told is the genetic you get from a 1/2 pumpkin and 1/2 squash offspring. As everyone knows, Orange = light to charts & green = heavy. The genetics which have both combined genes seem to favor leaning towards being more dense, like squash genetics tend to do.

I Wondered just who is turning up these breeding gem's this season, or who has grown something in the past. What interesting observations did you make about it's characteristics?

my 900 Wentzell is white, its in my diary, If I remember right that seeds greatgrandmother was a squash,Not completly sure thoughn and cant remember the name of the seed, Southern told me a while ago and so did L.Wentzell. The person to ask would be Southern, he knows his sh,,, stuff when it comes to genetics. My 1081 was a really light cream color up till about 2 days ago, its starting to get a orange tint to it with some green places around the stem., not much though.

And the 845 Bobier cutting.

The 500 est. Mitchell 99 (825 Shymanski x 865 Mettler) has thrown large white ones. See (Orange 0ne's) posts. I grew the 933 McMullen 03 (500 est Mitchell x self) this year as an genetic plant for pollen. I do have a small fruit and it is also white.

Very interesting genetic. Both the Mettler and Shymanski are progeny of the 567 {Laemmle/ Dill} on 1/2 of each of the parents sides and ONLY Waterman & Dill genetics for the other half! Now, since the 845/723/846 stuff has just these specific genetics in them CROSSED WITH the Llyod genetics as well, kind of makes you wonder what you'd get if you grew one of the 933's and crossed it with a 1098 Burke, eh?
HHHMmmmmmmmm......

Brooks...I hardly know my "stuff" when it's Marc Sawtelle ("Madman Marc") talking about genetics. *He's* the man you want to talk to about such matters, a literal walking genetics bank.

Marc...my 797 Handy, 851 Handy, and 730 Stellpflug plant pumpkins are/were all white...and if you'll check, each were heavy OTC and/or throw heavy OTC. The 797 is turning "squmpkin" as did it's mother.
My research reveals just as you said, the white/squmpkin fruit tend to be thick-walled and very heavy OTC, in general. There are exceptions however as with anything, last year my 659 McCallum (1092 Burke x sibb) went very light at weigh-off.

My fruit is still almost all white but with a very little "tad" of pink around the blossom end. It's pushing 800 lbs now and still growing. It is grown off the 699 (dmg) Schroeder which was {803.4 Davies X 821 Garrell)

My 420* Blair is a fairly light color fruit. Has a small tint of yellow in it, but looks white if you do not study the color htat close. The 420*'s genetics are 494* NEuville x 1260 Weir. Now, the fruit i am growing on my 420* i crossed the 494* back into it, which is throwing a nice green squash, kind of pear shaped. The offspring of the cross should throw squash or white fruit, or i would think it was at the least.

My 717 Mitchell 01 is producing white fruit, two are going on it at this time. The Mitchell is 723 Bobier X 801.5 Stelts. It's not the color I was expecting, but right now they are growing faster than anything else in the patch.

I had an interesting Sunday afternoon taking to Helmutt Laemmle {1/2 of the 567 Mombert genetic}. He grew for 8 years, started with a local farmers pumpkin seed {probably a real early 80's Gancarz genetic I'd guess, since he is in Gancarz's neck of the woods. He grew offspring from each years best fruits, making sibb crosses with them by inbreeding each season. The one interesting thing he told me was that one of his last seasons he had a plant throw squash ! This genetic was described as a very nice deep orange color, with no indication of any squash trait. He doesn't understand to this day how that was possible since he never grew anything green ever before. It weighed in the 300's and was sold off to Richard Wright. Nobody has a clue it seems about any offsprings tied to Wright's fruits.
This proves that even the 567 Mombert has enough recessive squash genes in it {355 Dill squash X Laemmle's recessive squash} to grow a greenie, or even better, white.
All of you with white fruits have something special,as both characteristics of a squash and pumpkin are combined. I've been told one or the other color dominates usually, and the white ones are rare. I'm interested in finding out how they do on the scales next month, please let me know. Good luck the rest of the way...

my 917 (723 bobier x 735 pukos) grew me a white one last year. that is, until about this point in the season, then it gradually started in with the blue/green. ended up about 60% squash, with the rest a mix of pink and white. the 735 plant that was used to pollinate my 723 plant threw white ones for the guy that grew it.

Andy; Didn't somebody grow your 413.5 or your 291.5 this year {or was it last?} or did you? What is the color like after selfing the 935 for a long time? If there is anyone to ask about this, it's gotta be you or G... nothing better than hands on experience...

After talking to a few top notch growers, the covering of white fruits late in the season has some input on the color of the fruit, come weigh off time. If you use a colored tarp over white fruits (I have 2 white fruits, 805 Pukos, and 845 Bobier - well, semi on the 845) then first week in September, take those blue tarp sun huts off your fruits, and go to clear plastic. This slows down the greening some, according to this grower I spoke to. My 805 Pukos is nearing the 750 pound range, and I dont want it to green up, as I dont want a 750 pound squmpkin, I want a 750 pound pumpkin!

I never grew a selfed 935....but Im growing the 935 now....it was bright white all season til about day 45 or so when it started turning a creamsicle-orange color with some mottled green and green-blue around the stem end.

Marc, I'm growing a 648 Hoffman 02 this year that is still almost white at Day 34.
The 648 is the 815 Checkon 98 x 547 Armstrong 00
The 815 is 977 Anderson 97 x 935 Lloyd 97
The 547 is 887 Orr 95 x 935 Lloyd 97

oops, late reply marc, hope you see this. the 413.5 was grown by nic welty, tom beachy, and casey neuville. tom's plant was junk, casey had little pumpkins, and nic had 2 of them on the plant mid-400's if i remember correctly. i was really suprised how well nic's did.n the 291 itself was a white fruit, nice and smooth. the 413 was whit early on, then turned a bit pink with a little blue around the edges. the last 413 seed i had ( there were only 5 good ones in the fruit) was auctioned off at the nysgpgs auction this spring. can't remember right now who bought it. it was paired with a 291. i think i only have 4 or so of the 291 left. one interesting thing is that the 291 fruit was hard as a rock. the guy that did the sculpture on it was swearing. the 413 was more of a normal texture. maybe it was the soil, idon't know. neither plant was given much care, and i was suprised each time at how big they got.
