Hi all. Hope your seasons are going well!

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to pick up a set of lifting straps. I'm going to be welding up a nice lifting ring but the straps are a problem for me. Any sites out there that sell just the straps?

Ideally, I would like to find a supplier of the straps and sew them up myself to save money but I'm not sure I have the necessary sewing skills. I've also never actually seen a set of straps up close so I'm not sure on the design that's normally used. I'm sure many of you have made your own straps so any advice/links would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Brian...Straps can be found at Lowes, Home Depot, auto stores, etc. The same thing on the rings is the same as in stores everywhere, depends on how big, and the weight rating you want. They're all basically the same thing.

I Got 2 inch straps that hold 3000 lbs, their like a towing rope. Or you could use material like old fire hoses

a tarp shop or awning shop should be able to make you a set of straps

Some marine & sail cloth places can do this custom work too.

All great ideas. Being on break from school, I have more time than money right now so making my own setup would keep me busy for awhile. I don't think I trust myself to sew the straps up but the tarp/sail shop is a good idea. I'll have to check around and see if I can find one here.

Thanks for the great ideas!

See if you can get a few seatbelt straps from a junkyard. That is the same material the Amish family that maks P & P Seeds' lifter uses.

I've seen & assisted in the use of these rings but never thought to measure the straps. How long are they usually from the upper loop on the ring to the lowest loop where the rope goes? 40" or so?

I had a lifting harness made last year...Had a friend weld the frame and I took it to a place thats makes tarps for transports trucks..they sewed them on for me and charged me about $50 ...they even put on orange straps since they knew it was for my pumpkins (:)
