or is there?
i was wondering.
i've only attempted to grow a big pumpkin for two seasons now.
i've noticed remarkable resilience at times with my plants.
some just wont give up.
i've witnessed a few times vines repairing themselves of cracks, holes, etc. leaves flat on thier face one moment to upright and proud the next.
my ? is, is it possible to (and don't laugh) connect a completely severed vine back together?
cause if it is, i would then ask if you could add foliar power(from another plant) to one that may have been hacked up a little too much?
so is there such a thing as a stupid ?
i guess i'll find out

in simple terms, can you take a section of vine and connect it with another plant?

There are some very talented & tenured growers who think that vine grafts are possible. More so at a young age so as to graft a cutting onto a seed grown agressive root stock so that it has a fully developed basal crown (or "stump" sic) which is the one thing that is really lacking in "clones".

If a process such as this were perfected in the greenhouse, then a limited supply of 845's or 723's could available as potted plants every spring.

Neat idea.

It should be possible. I have a gardener manual how to graft a cucumber cutting with a pumpkin to get a more resistant plant. If you like I can translate and post it here.

I have had limited sucess with grafts. This is something I am still messing with, but yes, they do graft together as its been tried and has worked. I'm sure others have tried this and have had sucess as well. When I find out more, I'll be sure to post my findings. Ahhhhh.... the fun of the offseason.....

MM, what technique did you use?

How about to cut both vines longitudinally about 10 inches long, remove one half of each vine and tighten together the halves of both vines?

This should work for already developed plants and you may connect several plants together. Imagine X-mas tree pattern where the secondaries are in fact the mains of (once) other plants!

Just checked the manual and the description is how to do it with 2 plants in the stage of third true leaf. I guess that´s not what we´re looking for here :-)
Will email the author of the manual, maybe he has some more ideas.
