Does anyone else have this?

On the pumpkins I have covered with a flannel sheet, there are a bunch of baby earthworms (10-20) that crawl up under the wrap and hang out on the fruits. They don't seem to cause any damage, but most die when the wrap dries out. Most are not over an inch long.

I don't see them anywhere else, and it seems odd that they find their way across the black mat that the pumpkin sits on.

Should I care?

RED WIGGLERS....The more the better as they are the dedicated gardners best friend and also very hard workers at making your patch the best environment for your plants..And watch out they will travel far and wide in moist conditions to find a good pile of organics to munch on and multiply, including going right up to your door step where hopefully the trail ends unless you leave your door open and invite them in....LOL

Zillions of them. The cool wet weather has them up early this year. I find a half dozen or more every day in the calcium towels. They don't apperar interested in the pumpkins but the sure like the towels. Maybe they're eating the cotton?
