I look at most people's diary's providing that i have the time to do so when i log on. Its something ive always l've liked to do. Im sure im not alone. I think its a great thing to share with everyone in the big pumpkin community. But there's one thing that kills me when i look at these diary's. Things like "here's my pumpkin, Freida. She gained 88 lbs over night at day 70 from pollination and is taping out at 1300". Okay , obviously a gross exaggeration, but i think it would be helpful if instead of just using the name you have assigned to a particular pumpkin, if you could add a line that mentions what seed it came from. I know there have been more than a few seeds that i was interested in growing based on pictures and growth habits alone. Its another tool in our shed to help us all decide what we might plant in up coming years.

Naming pumpkins is bad mojo. You don't want to go there. Named pumpkins tend to smell funny & they aren't flatulent enough.....Bad mojo....large alimentary canals but no oompah.....

Bohica........you're missing the point. i didnt say you shouldnt, or couldnt name them, but when posting maybe you could include the seed that grew that particular pumpkin. Its helpful to everyone, especially if they see characteristics in your fruit, that they would like to have in fruit of there own. Or better still if they like the cross you made and would consider growing it. We all do this because we get enjoyment out of it, but some of us are really into the genetics part of it.

I've noticed alot of diary's have the info earlier on in the diary, the cross and the name. It's hard to remember everyones as your scanning.

That's the issue Scott's dealing with. It's not really flatulence.
We're all guilty of it too. I call them by the first intial then the numerical sequence of pollination.
Example: 842 Eaton, the 5th fruit pollinated soon gets referred to exculsively as "E5". After 6 weeks of this we stop referring to the parent seed completely. And thus no one has a clue what "E5" is growing on without wasting time digging through a diary that might have 30 pictures of E5 before we state which plant it's on. There are still a few dialup modems chugging along out there too. Yikes!
