I covered my pumpkins last night because the temperature dropped down to 48 degrees. It is only supposed to go up to 65 degrees today. Would it be ok to leave the blankets on the pumpkins all day today??

what i have been doing is putting a thick cover on the fruit early evening, when the fruit has warmed up as much as it will from what little warmth there is during the day, then taking the cover off about noon, when i expect the ambient air temperature has gotten warmer than the fruit. i have noticed that it has helped (by a couple pounds per day) as compared to another fruit on the same plant that did not recieve the treatment, and had been doing better before i started doing this.

My pumpkin has been wrapped up in an old comforter for the past 3 days. I leave it on during the cold 60 degree days and the terrible 48 degree nights. I don't think it does a dam thing but it makes me feel a little better.

I know a blanket or two would be welcome to me if I had to sit in the garden all day and night in these temps.

Thanks for the posts! I just wanted to be sure i wouldn't damage my pumpkins by keeping them covered up on cold days.
I'll keep them covered until the temps hit 70!

Lucky I only go into work two days a week! The rest of the time I work at home. Guess if I didn't I would have to quit just to take care of my pumpkins!

I'm with Gordon... GO UTES!

If you really want to keep them warm, I would suggest a
blanket and then a tarp over that...

And I think that whatever cover is used it should keep the pumpkin dry and if not, then I think a calcium solution should at least be applied to it...

DillsNewbee,

Consider using the search function on this site!
Questions of that sort have been asked and answered very often...

Enter key words like "blanket", "electric blanket", "covering for warming", etc. in the search field and you will get all info you need.

Here is a link from not too long ago with great info...
