I have a great plant growing with a minimum of 800 leaves on it. On the main vine I have a 180 lb. pumpkin that is 24 days old. This pumpkins has been gaining an average of ~ 15 lbs per day. I also have another pumpkin on this plant set on a huge secondary vine. This pumkin is growing great, but is young and only weighs ~50lbs. Should i cull the youngs pumpkin and let the big have the entire plant to itself????

i believe you will get a few different replies to your question. remember, regardless of what advice you are given, it is your decision......

would have been better to post how many sq ft the plant is rather then how many leaves it has. at any rate, 180 lbs at day 24 is good. ~15 per day is a nice steady gain that could increase over time, or decrease. what to do, i would slowing cull the small pumpkin, take 3 days cutting through the stem a little bit each day.

my 2 cents, more to follow i am sure. best of luck!

I just pulled a bunch off the other day. Anything that was not growing. I also have now been cutting of all new female & male flowers, I don't want to waste one bit of energy!

Is it a good idea to cut off all flowers AND the new growth on ends of vines as well?
