HI. I currently have a pumpkin set out 15 ft. from stump on main vine and also have 6 to 7 hundred leafs on plant, but i have not deadheaded any vines yet. the pumpkin is the size of a large bowling ball and im only gaining 3" a night in circumference.should the gain be more or will it pick up when i start to deadhead ? any and all input would be apprechated. thanks john g

john, my first question is, when did you pollinate? second, your pumpkin will still grow even without deadheading. i didn't start deadheading last year until mid august probaby. what i've seen from my own observations is that the pumpkin will grow a little when its small, for a few weeks, then you'll get one week when the thing is putting on serious weight gain, like 25-35 pounds a day, maybe even more, then a gradual decline until the weighoff. so, in the next few weeks expect explosive growth!! scott
