Does anyone know for sure how deep base roots grow and how wide they spread? Thank you for any help.

I don't know how deep they go but when I pulled my plant up the tap root was over 3' long. And the roots will spread out as far as your plant does......Paul

Hi Blue! I dug 5'x5'x5' deep planting holes last spring and I had tap roots that went to the bottem!

theyll grow as big as you let them, loose soil with nutrients and moisture. Roots will actually exceed your plant in square footage, again if the soil is loose and nutrients are presant.

thanks for all your help. I think that I will go to the extreme this year and dig till China. I'm thinking 10x10x10. It might take me all winter to dig four of them though.

there are some posts from len s. (rush n.y.) on how far roots will spread the better the soil conditions the farther they will go
