I don't know if this question has been asked previously. Has anyone ever tried placing a piece of the silver mylar emergency blanket in between two regular blanket to help decrease the heat loss at night? Would it be bad to not allow the pumpkin to easily breathe through the material of a regular blanket?

your weather in pa is not very different from us in r.i.

i believe the fruit still needs to breath and thus should not have a layer of solid material

we blanket every night from 7-21 out unless it is a very humid night in the 70 degree range

if i had a real stud going in september id also use a electric blanket set as desired

I used silver mylar last September and was *very* happy with it's ability to keep the fruit warm. I used it as the outer layer and the pumpkin still got to breathe.

I placed in a thin strip (about 12" wide) over the center of the pumpkin nd noticed a lot of condensation under the blanket and thought maybe I was asking for trouble (which I don't need). We had some really cool nights and cloudy cool days this week and I was trying to keep as much of the heat in as I could. The cool weather (50 degree nights high 60's in the day))slowed the growth down a bit, we'll see if it picks up as it gets warmer again this week. Thanks for the info- I think I'll pass on the mylar blanket and keep the electric blanket idea for later when it hits 1000lbs in Sept. (In my dreams but you never know!)
