Went to the patch Thursday and my 250 lber is starting to mush out at the bottom and as of Friday was only 4 inches high and slowly melting..Should I remove this from the patch. I have another pumpkin at 350lbs and dont want any problems..any advice....

I would remove the rotting one ASAP for your own good... it is becoming more stinky and gross every minute it sits there.

To prevent it next time... rot can happen for a variety of reasons:
-pumpkin was sitting on wet ground and rotted
-critter chewed through the pumpkin
-a stem or rib split into the cavity
-disease

finially got me a digital camera and when I figure out how to download a pic Iwill. My big one has these light colored spots on it near the stem end..but I belive it could be from leaves touching it...removed the suspected leaves...the spots are not soft, any ideas....im almost afraid to touch it since Ive lost 3 good size pumpkins to melt down.....my big one does not seem to be growing any more....perhaps its all inside.....
