Is it ok to just drape a piece of floating row over your pumpkins to protect them from the sun?

Whidbey Island

I used Remay last year in the fall to give the vine a bit more warmth during the last weeks. It seemed to work nicely. I think that during the hot days it might get too warm under the Remay, so be careful.
