Can anyone clue me in as to why some of my male flowers have no pollen?

I recall seeing a post that said to put the flowers in front of an open oven door and the pollen will appear...I guess the oven should be on for this to work

what time of day are you looking at them ?

early in the morning the pollen isn't out yet... the little tubes that contain it haven't split open yet.

later in the day- as early as early afternoon... the pollen can be all gone do to the bee's and heat of the day drying it up.

How early is early ?

I start work early... 6 am... so I don't pollinate I have my wife do it. I tie off the female the night before. In the morning I go out to the patch before I leave for work. I cut the males (they haven't opened yet) and bring them inside and place them in a glass of water. then leave a little diagram showing her where the female is in the patch. Then I call her around 8 or 9 to reminder her, if she hasn't already done it, and she'll go out and do the pollinating. What a woman ! :)

Every one of my females i pollinated, i did at around 515am (still dark out)Because i have to be at work at 6am. all the female flowers was only starting to open 1/4. I would pry her open just enough so I could get my pill bottle with pollin inside the female. This is sounding like,,,,,, well never mind, anyway, I have had a excellent pollination rate doing it like this , hitting the female just when she starts to open and doing it in the dark.

This year I have to leave for work at 4:30 am . What I have been doing is cutting the males the night before and leaving them inside. At 4:15 I take the males and open them up,you can see no pollen.I take a hair dryer and hold it blowing into the flower from about 6" away. After about 5mins. you will see the pollen appearing and ready to use. The heat is whats nessesary to open the sacs up and allow the pollen to come out.

This is the first year I have done it this early and it has worked out good. I think its worked better on the hot days than doing it in the late morning. I guess we just never stop learning.
