Sad day today .My biggest pumpkin "Jake" has a bad split under the vine where the stem meets the vine . I think by doing the measurements he must weigh about 90#. Is there any hope for saveing him?

Hi Kim! Does the split run with the stem or across it? Don't give up hope yet! Have you cut tap roots on both sides of vine for several feet? This reduces stem stress. They'll grow back, so check them every few days. Use a q-tip and cover your split with captan. You'll have to re-apply this over the season. As an AG grows you'll sometimes see splits and juice will ooze from the stem, this is no cause for alarm, just keep captan on it!Don't give up!
